“Strong Female Lead” is a category Netflix is always recommending to me. It’s refreshing the amount of girl power I have been seeing in movies, especially with the release of the Wonder Woman movie. I find myself beaming with pride to see women taking on such powerful roles in box-office-busting roles. When I was younger it was rare to have a badass, girl role model that wasn’t dripping in pink or scantily clad. The only people standing in my corner were Dr. Ellie Sattler, the raptor fighting paleobotanist from Jurassic Park, and the tomboy quarterback “Icebox” from the Little Giants.

Below, in no particular order, is a list of some fierce, unstoppable, kick-ass ladies in movies today.

Rey

First, we have to talk about Star Wars. Scavenger one day, major force for the Resistance the next. Rey deals with no nonsense; she is the embodiment of strength and independence.

Gamora

Next we have our favorite girl in green, Gamora. Gamora is as strong and agile as she is green. Oh, and she is also a part of a ragtag crew that goes around and saves the Galaxy. NBD.

Ghost Busters

Also, the surprisingly controversial Ghost Busters reboot. These ladies use their smarts and wits to take on some goopy ghosts. Although the movie was highly criticized due to its beloved original, I would buy tickets to a movie McCarthy, McKinnon, Wiig, and Jones collaborate on any day.

Joy & Sadness

These ladies are total opposites that teach you why both emotions are important. They‘ll make you laugh; they’ll make you cry; they’ll make you feel way more than you thought you could in a children’s movie.

The Hidden Figures

NASA is full of brilliance. However, these women and their stories are the brightest stars. They make no excuses, never give up, and they lead the way for generations to come.

X-23

The cutest decapitator in the whole world. X-23 can take down a fleet of men and still totally pull off a unicorn t-shirt.

Katniss Everdeen & Beatrice Prior

Love triangles and love interests aside, these dystopian women are strong-willed and prevail under the harshest conditions.

Belle

Belle is fearless. She also teaches younger generations that books are cool, and Emma Watson gives them an awesome and worthy role model to look up to.

The Avenger Combo

Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.

The Black Widow can kick your butt to the next universe. Meanwhile, Scarlet Witch can warp your reality with her hexes–literally being your worst nightmare.

Moana

Not only is she best friends with the ocean, she pushes past all of the limits placed on her.

Wonder Woman

The latest and greatest to join the group, Wonder Woman is the first lead female superhero and her movie has shattered box office expectations. With her golden Lasso, indestructible cuffs, and melee fighting skills she has no problem taking down anyone in her path.
