InternOKC

This summer, Freestyle signed the interns up for InternOKC, a five-week program for interns from companies in and around Oklahoma City. Every Wednesday for the past five weeks we’ve rolled out to different OKC locations, like the Chevy Events Center and Embassy Suites. The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber’s Greater Grads puts on this program each summer as a way to give interns a chance to network with other interns in the area.

It’s basically summer camp for interns, but with air conditioning and three-course meals. 10/10 would recommend!

At the start of each session, signed in and grabbed a nametag. Then we received a slip of paper with a number that corresponds with a table, creating a random seating arrangement—a foolproof way to ensure we’d meet as many other interns as possible. Throughout the program we met dozens of other interns from dozens of different schools and with dozens of different majors. Interns unite!

Kelli Dupuy and Sheena Karami were this year’s emcees, and they make one goofy duo. They gave us the opportunity each session to use social media to post about InternOKC for a chance to win a prize, like a SONIC gift card or museum tickets.

The tables were always decorated with goodies and pamphlets, including calendars of upcoming events in Oklahoma City. The goal was to encourage interns to go out and experience Oklahoma City and all it has to offer. Many interns shared their OKC outings on social media throughout the program using #InternOKC. These posts were all featured in the slideshow during the finale session.

Each session provided interns with lunch and/or snacks, informative presentations from a variety of speakers—including the mayor of Oklahoma City—and the opportunity to network with other interns in the area.

We heard from Dr. Ken Eastman about generational gaps in the workplace, Casey Cornett about using social media for good and Mona Earnest about cultural diversity, to name a few.

InternOKC has been an informative and fun mid-work week break to learn more about Oklahoma City, hear from different speakers, and network with other interns in the area.

Freestyle Creative was the video sponsor for InternOKC this year. Rob and Josh, our video producers, joined us at each session to film, photograph and interview the speakers and interns.

The finale video debuted at the last session of InternOKC, held at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The upbeat video compiled memories from the past five weeks and served as a great culmination to the program—shoutout to Rob and Josh!
