Happy National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12 in honor of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. In April, the Freestyle Creative team had the honor of interviewing nurses at OSU Medical Center for a National Nurses Week video project.

“During the interviews, I could easily tell how passionate all the OSUMC nurses are about caring for other people,” said Will Dickinson, director of the photography and video department at Freestyle.

Freestylers asked the nurses why they chose their profession. Their responses included personal stories related to family health issues and the desire serve their communities. Several of the nurses mentioned how much they enjoy impacting their patients’ stays – making sure they are comfortable, safe and well-understood.

“The interviewing experience only intensified my appreciation for nurses. Last month, when my wife and newborn baby were in the hospital and NICU, the love of the nurses was the reason we were able to get through such a scary experience,” Will said.

During their time at the hospital, the nurses learned the names and personalities of Will, his wife and their newborn, and they tailored their care to the needs of his family. Will said the nurses were honest with them even when things were difficult to hear, but they constantly assured his family that their new baby, Lorelai, was in the best hands possible.

The entire Freestyle Creative team would like to express how appreciative we are for nurses, especially those at OSU Medical Center and in Oklahoma. As Will said, “Nurses are the people who set the tone for patient care and allow the family and patients to see the light at the end of the tunnel.” Thank you to all the awesome nurses out there.
